Manuka Oval is one of Canberra’s oldest recreation venues, now providing facilities for interstate cricket and AFL as well as other activities. The decision to install new overhead lighting has increased the capacity of the oval to attract new sporting events at this venue, with consequent benefits for local business and the wider Canberra economy.
Purdon Planning worked with the ACT Government and project architects to undertake community consultation and secure development approval through the National Capital Authority for the new light towers.
As part of the ANU Exchange precinct in City West, this mixed-use development was created on a strategic site at the north-western gateway to the city centre. The project included about 450 student accommodation units and associated communal facilities, basement parking, activated commercial ground floor space and community facilities.
The development represents a major investment by the ANU and is consistent with the ACT Government’s objective of encouraging more residential accommodation in the city centre, as well as achieving closer interaction between the ANU and the City Centre.
As with other ANU Exchange projects, Purdon Planning worked closely with the University, project architect and project managers to get all planning approvals for the site including boundary changes, lease variations, heritage approvals, and road de-gazettals.
This work has been ongoing with QIC for over 15 years and has, to date, delivered a multi-million dollar mixed-use development including retail, office, entertainment, community facilities and parking that represents a major activity and employment node in Canberra City Centre.
The Canberra Centre development included approximately 80,000m2 of retail space, 100,000m2 office space, 5000 parking spaces and community facilities. The Centre includes active retail frontages and mall retailing.
Purdon Planning’s role throughout this period has involved close liaison with QIC and a multi-disciplinary team. Our work has included master plan studies, planning reports, community consultation, government liaison, Crown lease variations and development approvals for the project.
This project is a large mixed-use redevelopment including hotels, entertainment facilities, residential apartments, health facilities, office space and parking in Central Canberra (Barton), located close to Parliament House.
The development occupies a large site in Barton and is a focus for day and night-time activity. The project resulted from redevelopment of a previous Commonwealth hostel site, and required extensive negotiation with the National Capital Authority to secure development approvals over a number of stages. The buildings are an award-winning development and seen as a valuable addition to the local area.
Purdon’s involvement in the ‘Realm’ project included advice on master planning, community consultation, government liaison and development approvals; working closely with the developer/owners of the facility and their design team.
